Default What about the Basic sciences and Non clinical fields

Hello everybody. I have got few queries.

    1. How to get PostGraduate education or training/residency in basic sciences and non clinical subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochem, Behavioral Sciences, Pathology etc in USA?

    2. Are USMLE steps, a prerequisite for getting into these fields?

    3. What is the ratio of IMGs applying every year to these fields?

    4. Does one get stipend during the training/residency in basic sciences or is there any annual fees for such training that one has to pay? And what visas are required for such training?

    5. What are the prospects of basic sciences postgraduation in US? Do they get paid more then the usual physicians?

Inputs from everybody will be appreciated, especially Naeem Bhai.

    1. Pathology has a residency program. Rest have masters n PhDs... GRE is needed usually.

    2. Not for all. Behavioral Sciences, am not sure. Pathology: Needs USMLE.

    3. Pathology: Many. Others: No figures, since they are not through the NRMP system.

    4. In Pathology, u get all as in any other residency. For others, you'll be paying and on student visa... Am not exactly sure, but that's what I know.

    5. Nah! Only pathology pays are good. Rest of the basics: They are not a match to physicians.

    Default pathology

I have done my MD in pathology from India. so I wish to apply for pathology residency. In whatever i searched, pathology is mostly a university based prog, most on J1, but H1 B is available, have to look into each site for that. most require a previous MD or PhD in home country. Facilities given by prog are better than in IM but the prog u can apply to r few. american graduates also give good competition. calls are few, its a good lifestyle.
however, at present jobs are few, but that might be a different story in four yrs time. fellowships are good....cytopathology, hematopathology, blood transfusion, nephropathology, neuropathology etc. Its a very good branch. residency period is longer...4-5yrs. A fellowship is preferred after residency.
microbiology has no residency, its a fellowship program after pathology residency.
